I Kiss Your Feet Riccardo Tisci (Givenchy)

Givenchy Spring 2012 Ready To Wear via style.com

I choked on my lunch when I saw the above pictures of Givenchy’s Spring 2012 Runway last week. These necklaces are god damned amazing and look incredible together with the pastel ensembles. For being brave with your accessories I applaud you Riccardo!

Admittedly I have a penchant for the shark pendant and have owned more than a few leather strung teeth in my time. Considering myself somewhat of a surf rat in the very early 90′s it was hard not to. While Point Break was laughable among real surfers it’s an easy reference for this blog post. I think Patrick Swayze is wearing one below.

Back then it was all about Keanu but seriously what was I thinking?! Now that I’m all grown up and officially NOT a surfer I have progressed to a more mature shark tooth vibe. A couple of months back I bought some 24k plated fossil teeth online and have hung them from gold hoop earrings. I love them and I wear them everyday.

If you too are vibing the shark teeth here are some pieces for you:

This is a beautiful ring by Atelier Minygon. 24k gold,  sterling silver, ruby and diamond $1,780 USD. You can buy it here at Max and Chloe.

This simple necklace is $98 USD and available here at Etsy.

And finally this little cutie is 14k gold and available for $218 USD here at Etsy.

Twin Peaks Fashion

October 5, 2011 — 3 Comments

Some total legend has created a Tumblr dedicated to what is IMHO the best TV series in existence; Twin Peaks. It appears to be mostly stills from Season 1 but I’m hoping it will be updated as time goes on. So much knitwear, so much red lipstick. So much atmosphere. So good. Check it here.

Pinky Rings Are Boss

October 4, 2011

Images via here, here, here.

So I’m on the hunt for the perfect pinky ring. I have a silver pinkie ring that I made myself in a short course using the lost wax casting method. It’s cool but very simple and I’m ready to step it up a notch or 40. I’m thinking gold, fairly chunky (but not too chunky) and must be shaped so it’s flattering on the finger. I’m thinking something along the lines of Carine Roitfeld’s ring above.

Surprisingly its pretty difficult to find a pinky ring that fits. I guess they aren’t that popular among women so I might need to get a larger one and have it resized.

I found the picture above on Suzyful Found blog which I have just RSS’d. Judging from some of her posts it looks like we share a few interests.

Minnie Mouse in Africa

September 26, 2011 — 2 Comments

Ask any of my friends and they will tell you that I have a bit of a thing for Africa. I did a safari through East Africa about 7 years ago and it was incredible. I stumbled across these images at my friend Lady Sarah Jane’s blog. Photograph’s were shot by Mark Seliger and featured in the December 2009 issue of German Vogue.

Abbey Lee Kershaw for Mania Mania

I’m pretty much in love with this new campaign from Mania Mania featuring Australian model Abbey Lee Kershaw. To be honest I don’t really dig the jewellery alone that much but it looks great styled in these photos. AND I’m convinced I need to go more blonde…

The range seems very retro to me and reminds me a lot of a ring my mum bought in Vegas in the mid 70′s. You can see all pieces and buy online here.

Sonic Youth LIVE, Chloe Sevigny NUDE

September 14, 2011

Sugar Kane is one of my all time favourite Sonic Youth songs and until tonight I had never seen the video.

My excuse is legitimate, the internet didn’t exist when I first started getting into them and there was no MTV here in Australia at the time. The closest you could get was Rage on a Friday night but once you started falling asleep (it screened from 11pm – 9am) you had to put in a VHS and hit record. However VHS tapes only recorded for 2 hours so you would cross your fingers and hope for the best.  That’s what I call anticipation.

Kim Gordon is no stranger to fashion. The earliest I remember was her involvement in X-Girl (arguably the world’s first female streetwear label) which was huge at the time and still sells to this day in Japan. I also remember admiring the stripe dress she is wearing in the photo above. There is something about that narrow black/white stripe, it’s an indie classic. Then in 2008 Kim released a line of limited edition jackets, in 2009 she released the Mirror/Dash line which is exclusive to Urban Outfitters (and attracted negative sentiment in music circles) then collaborated with Sportmax on a range called Carte Blanche .

Fast forward a few years and I’m in my living room watching Gossip Girl (my guilty and very uncool pleasure) and I see Sonic Youth perform on set. My jaw  literally dropped to the floor. How can this happen? I have been keeping my GG addiction very quiet, it was my secret shame and then this? I couldn’t believe it!

Kim Gordon has been quoted as being proud of surprising people and not being what they expect.

“I like the idea of contrasts and the idea of playing against type, [the notion] that rock is supposed to be hard and leather and stuff like that—I think it’s ridiculous. I’m more intrigued when I see a girl or a woman onstage who you can’t fit into a category.”  Kim Gordon, Vanity Fair 2011.

Personally I think this is awesome. You can break any rule you like Kim, Sonic Youth are one of the greatest bands in the world and you are a 56 year old living legend!

So what is with this post you ask? I just discovered that the Sugar Kane filmclip was filmed in Marc Jacobs’ studio in 1992 and features a nekkid Chloe Sevigny who was an unknown intern at NYC’s infamous Sassy magazine.

Oh yeah there is more. Watch this interview with Kim that discusses her history with fashion and how the Sugar Kane video came about:
